A breakfast before school, first loves, and those quiet, ordinary miracles that fill our days. Welcome to Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire, in the year 1901. Everyone knows each other’s business, and the milkman still makes house calls. Lauded by Edward Albee as “the greatest American play ever written,” Our Town examines life in a small fictional town in three acts and follows the relationship of George and Emily, a young couple in love. It is the story of their lives together, intertwined with the town and its people. A timeless tale that gently reminds us of the importance of appreciating the life we have and the people with whom we share it.

Lazy Susan Theatre Co. is seeking performers for its upcoming production of Thornton Wilder’s Our Town. We encourage performers to audition for roles that resonate with them, regardless of their gender identity, race/ethnicity, sexuality, or ability status. Please note: the role of EMILY WEBB has been cast.

(Teen to adult, he/him) Emily’s younger brother. Not as book-smart as his sister, easily distracted but focused when he finds something interesting. Also portrays JOE CROWELL JR. and SI CROWELL, two paper delivery boys.

(18 to early 20s, he/him) Goes from age 14 to 17 to 26. A decent and likable young man. A baseball player who dreams of being a farmer and is deeply in love with Emily Webb. He is a kind but irresponsible boy next door who matures over time.

(Any age, any gender) Our narrator, commentator, and guide through Grover’s Corners. Loves people, is easy-going, and grounded with clear wisdom. A natural storyteller. Engaging, personable, perhaps a little all-knowing. The Stage Manager speaks directly to the audience and interacts with the characters, periodically assuming roles in the play's action, including a minister, a drug store owner, and a neighbor lady passing by.

(30s to 40s, any gender) Emily’s cousin, who has left Grover’s Corners to travel west but returns for her funeral. Also portrays PROFESSOR WILLARD, a long-winded professor, and HOWIE NEWSOME, a milk delivery boy. Seeking an experienced guitarist for this role.

(40s to 60s, she/her) George’s mother. A pleasant woman, one who’s willing to forgo her own desire for the sake of others. For years, she’s wanted to visit Paris, France. Loving and a bit overprotective of her family.

(40s to 60s, he/him) George’s father and the town doctor. He is dutiful and believes others should be as well. Knowledgeable and aware of what’s going on in the town. A Civil War expert. He truly loves his family, though it may be difficult for him to say it.

(40s to 60s, he/him) Emily’s father and the publisher of the town paper. Hard-working, good-natured, and always ready to roll up his sleeves and dig in. He has a soft spot for his daughter Emily.

(60s to 80s, she/her) A good friend of Mrs. Gibbs and Mrs. Webb. She sings in the choir and loves to spread gossip. Also portrays CONSTABLE WARREN, the town’s constable.

(18 to early 20s, she/her) Goes from 14 to 17 to 26 to 12 to 26 again. Emily’s love story with George is the central spine of the play's action. Please note, this role has already been cast, but we are seeking an understudy.
